Hearts that Pop for Popcorn

Updated: Nov 22, 2019

Amish Country Popcorn is a family run business through and through. All of their popcorn is grown within a 10 mile radius so that they can keep an eye on it. They even have a number of Amish women working for the company - truly integrating themselves into the Amish Country they’re based in.

None of their popcorn is trucked in and all their products are non-GMO, gluten, and preservative free. They feed the soil various nutrients to put a healthier corn on the stalk, and they keep as much of the ‘bad stuff’ off the crops as they can.

Amish Country has more than 13 varieties of popcorn available - including mushroom, baby white, red, rainbow, and more. All their popcorn is un-popped, meaning you don’t have to worry about coated sodium and chemical preservatives many popcorn brands have.

In an interview, Nathan expresses the culture of the family business, “We love popcorn. Farming popcorn is in our blood. We’ve been doing it now for 41 years. Sweat, blood, and tears have gone into this business and we pride ourselves on the quality of our products.”

The Story Behind It All

When Brian Lehman was 6 years old, his father gave him a small popcorn plot outside their home in Berne, Indiana. Brian and his family grew up in the heart of Amish country, and throughout his childhood he cultivated the little popcorn plot his father had given him. Proud of his work, he often brought popcorn to friends, family, and even his sixth grade teacher.

After graduating from high school, he knew exactly what he wanted to do for a living. It was simple: he loved popcorn! It was the encouragement of his father to go from one acre to twenty-five acres that shaped the course of his and his family’s life. At 19 years old, Brian named the company Amish Country Popcorn to honor the rolling Amish countryside he had grown up in - and the rest is history.

Forty-one years later, Brian is still in the popcorn business selling safe, healthy popcorn and serving the Lord as he does so. His family has shared in the love for popcorn and joined the cause, including his son Nathan, his daughter, and two sons-in-law.

The story behind Amish Country Popcorn is one rooted in a family’s generational love for popcorn and for serving the Lord one kernel at a time.
