Hi! I’m Annemarie.
Like most of my fellow teammates, I wear a lot of hats here at Peter Rubi. Primarily though, I oversee human resources and process improvement.
For me, ‘Healthier Lifestyle, Healthier You’ is not just about food. A huge piece is the environment where I work and my ability to balance the other aspects of my life so I can be the best me at work and at home. This was definitely not the case for me in corporate America. Most days I worked until 6 or 7 each night and I found myself losing touch with what was going on with my kids at school. Once I realized just how much was slipping through the cracks, I took a leap of faith and quit my corporate job - choosing to stay home with my kiddos during the summer. I’m so glad that I did!
When my kids went back to school I knew that I needed to find something to do, but wasn’t sure what the next step in my career would be. A position as sales floor associate at Peter Rubi popped up on my Facebook feed one day. I applied, and by the end of August 2017, I was filling baskets and working the cash register!
One day as I was eating lunch in the breakroom, John struck up a conversation with me about my background. Once he found out that my background was in training and process efficiency, my opportunity here grew. It has become the perfect balance for me. I can be challenged every day AND I can be there for my kids when I need to be. Because of this balance I can now focus more on my physical health. Since becoming part of the Peter Rubi Family, my whole family has made shifts in eating more whole foods and less processed foods. My sixth grader even decided to jump into a vegetarian diet this year! The culture here has definitely filtered down into my home.
So what does ‘Healthier Lifestyle, Healthier You’ mean to me specifically? Making a conscious effort on a daily basis towards healthier eating habits, but also better balance and positivity in my life… and forgiving myself when it doesn’t quite go that way.
My husband, three children and I have lived in Plainfield for 7 years - the longest we have lived anywhere. Each of my three kids were born in a different state; we moved nearly every year because my husband was in the Marine Corps. Now that we’ve grown some roots here, we’ve been able to achieve a really beautiful balance as a family.
When the weather cooperates, I enjoy riding my bike to work. I play flute and piccolo in a local orchestra called Chicagoland Pops. I also recently performed in my first ever Shakespeare play as Portia in ‘Merchant of Venice.’
My all-time favorite ‘Peter Rubi Approved’ products? The Dark Chocolate Cranberry Kakookies and our house-made Chimichurri Sauce. I put it on EVERYTHING. You should definitely try both, you won’t regret it.
